I've seen reviews of this on other (US based) sites, that give this unit a very poor rating - why? Probably because they were expecting far too much from it. Bare in mind your HU was never intended to control an iPod (with the exception of the P5700DVD anyway), and you'll realise Pioneer have done a pretty good job with this unit.
Plus points:
Sound quality is excellent, almost on a par with my HU's (DEH-P77MP) cd player. Previously, I had my ipod hooked up via a Pioneer aux adaptor, and Densions iPod Icelink (aux version). The sound is much cleaner, louder and is virtually free of any hiss etc - I needed a noise suppressor with the Dension unit to stop every bit of electrical noise under the sun going through the HU, and even with the suppressor it wasn't great.
It charges the ipod and enables it to be stashed out of site in the glove box.
It's very easy to install even for a complete novice.
Minus points:
Searching through your library of tracks via album or artist can takes ages - this is the main complaint other reviewers seem to have. However with a little patience, and actually bothering to read the manual it's not actually too bad.
tips:
Setting up a range of playlists on your iPod will make using this unit a LOT easier for you with most HU's.
Contrary to what some other reviewers have said, it is possible to display track/artist/album names on any compatible HU, by scrolling through the options in function 3. However most HU's won't automatically scroll the information, and will only display the first 8 characters. It is however possible to scroll by pressing and holding the scroll button (rotary encoder in the case of the P77MP).
If you want to play a particular album/artist, and don't wan't to scroll for ages select the album/artist, either select the album etc you want, or create a playlist for the album/artist on the iPod before connecting it.
Conclusion:
I bought this unit because I wanted the best possible Sound Quality from the iPod in my car, from that point of view the CD-IB100 does'nt dissapoint at all.
