• Overview: The Guide + Play GPS-500 is a portable GPS navigator and digital audio/video player from Harmon Kardon. The GPS-500 all-in-one navigation and entertainment system can be used in the vehicle or as a portable device. The portable GPS unit is designed to be easy to use with color-coded touchscreen menus and requires no installation due to its built-in GPS antenna and plug-in car charger.

• Arm9 Core CPU: The GPS-500 features an integrated 324MHz ARM9 core CPU for fast calculation and operation.

• 4" Touchscreen Display: The GPS-500 features a 4", widescreen, WQVGA (480 x 272) touchscreen display that is capable of 65,000 colors and is easy to operate due to its color-coded menu system. You can adjust the GPS-500's screen brightness so you can clearly see it in various lighting conditions.

• Color Mode: The GPS-500 had two color modes to choose from - Day (optimized for viewing in brighter light) and Night (optimized for viewing in lower light).

• Screen Language: The GPS unit features the ability to display an English, French or Spanish text.

• Media Player: In addition to a GPS receiver, the unit can also be used as a Audio/Video media player through its SD card slot. The player supports SD cards up to 4GB and will playback the following audio/video formats.

The unit comes supplied with a wall charger, car charger and a 2.0 USB cable that can all be used to charge the device. The unit features a Battery Charge screen that shows the GPS-500 battery's charge level.

• Mounting: The GPS-500 comes supplied with an adjustable angle mounting bracket that can either be suction-cupped to the windshield or mounted to the dashboard or console of your vehicle using the self-adhesive dash-pad.

• Where Would You Like To Go?: The GPS unit's Where Would You Like to Go screen gives you multiple ways to plan your trip.

• Address: allows you to enter in a place's specific address for a destination
• Place: allows you to enter a nearby POI as a destination
• City Center: allows you to enter in a city name as a destination point
• Intersection: allows you to enter the names of two streets intersecting as a destination point
• Postal Code: allows you to enter in a zip code to help you find your destination
• Home: stores your home address so you can easily select it as a destination
• Recent Places: stores a list of your recently visited locations in a History page so you can easily select them as destination points at a later date
• Saved Places: lets you save locations to a special list so you can easily use them again later as destination locations
• Points Of Interests: The GPS-500 has a built-in point-of-interest database with millions of entries in many different categories. You can choose from the following:

• Simulating Your Destination: The GPS-500 will simulate your trip to give you an idea of where you will be traveling. The simulation includes all map movements and voice-prompts and takes place at high speed.

• Navigating Your Destination: Once you have entered your destination and our ready to Navigate the Map screen will appear. A blue arrowhead icon indicates your present location and your direction of travel. The route that the GPS-500 has calculated is indicated by a green line. The map will show the distance to and direction of your next turn and also shows the remaining time and distance of your trip and your estimated arrival time. The map will continually update your position along the route.

• Additional Destination: The unit allows you to add another destination at the end of your original trip.

• Voice Guidance: The GPS-500 will issue voice-guidance commands through its built-in speaker, telling you when and where to turn. You can select between an English, French or Spanish voice language.

• Map View: The GPS-500's Map screen can by viewed in 2D, 2D north-oriented or 3D mode.

• 2D Mode: two-dimension map that constantly displays the route from top to bottom on the screen
• 2D North Mode: two-dimensional map that constantly displays North at the top of the screen
• 3D Mode: three-dimensional map that constantly displays the routed from top to bottom on the screen
• Map Zoom: The Map Zoom feature zooms your view from a distance of just a few yards off the ground all the way to a view thousands of miles in space.

• Turn-By-Turn Screen: The Turn-By-Turn screen display a detailed list of each turn of the your entire trip. The list shows the direction of each turn and how far to drive on each leg of your journey.

• Wrong-Turn Recalculation: If you make a wrong turn, the GPS-500 will automatically calculate a new route and will continue to guide you to your destination.

• Detour: The unit's Detour feature recalculates your route, avoiding the next turn in order to avoid construction sites, traffic jams, etc.

• Avoidances: When the GPS-500 calculates navigation routes, you can set it to always avoid the following road conditions - U-turns, Unpaved roads, Toll roads, Roads requiring permits, Highways, Border crossings, and/or Ferries.

• Route Priority: When the GPS-500 calculates navigation routes, you can set it to give priority to either the Shortest Distance or the Shortest Time.

• Measurement Settings: You can choose for the unit to calculate distances in kilometer/meters, mile/feet or miles/yards.

• Music and Video Player
• Music and Video Player: In addition to its navigation functions, the GPS-500 can play your music and video files loaded onto a SD media card (not included). The unit will support SD memory cards up to 4GB.

• Audio Compatibility: The unit supports MP3 and WMA audio files stored on an SD card. This unit also supports ID3 Tags version 1 and version 2.1-2.3.

• MP3: 16-bit (VBR/CBR), 44kHz, 64kbps up to 320kbps, 2-channel
• WMA: 16-bit, 44kHz, stereo, 32kbps up to 160kbps (VBR) and 32kbps up to 256kbps (CBR, 2-channel)

• Loading Media on Inserted Card: There are two ways to transfer media from your computer to an SD card that is inserted in the GPS-500.

• USB Mass Storage: The USB Mass Storage mode lets you transfer files using the drag-and-drop method on your computer (the same method you use to transfer files from one folder or drive to another).
• MTP (Media Transfer Protocol): MTP mode transfers files using the Sync mode of Window Media Player (ver. 10 or higher).
• Audio Categories: You can sort and display your music by Artist, Album, Genre, Playlist or Song in alphabetical order.

• Audio Play Modes: The GPS-500 features shuffle and repeat playback modes.

• Shuffle: plays all the songs in current category in random order
• Repeat: repeats single track or repeats all songs in current category
• Video Playback: All of the videos stored on your SD card will be displayed in the order in which they were put on the SD card with the first one at the top. You can scroll through the listing of videos to find the one you want to view.

• Controls and Connections
• Touchscreen: The unit features a 480 x 272 pixel WQVGA LCD touchscreen to operate the majority of the functions of unit.

• On/Off Button: The On/Off button on the top of the unit powers the unit On and Off.

• SD Card Slot: The SD card slot is located on top of the unit and accepts SD cards up to 4GB. An SD card is required to store audio and video media to be played on the GPS-500.

• Note: No SD card included.

• Lock Switch: The Lock switch is located on the left side of the unit and locks the GPS-500's touchscreen and all of its controls to prevent accidental operation without you having to turn the unit off so you can carry it in your pocket or purse.

• Volume/Brightness Control: This multi-purpose dial located on the right-side of the unit adjusts the volume of the unit's built-in speaker and headphone output. In addition, this dial can be used to adjust the brightness level of the display.

• Headphone Jack: The headphone jack is located on the right-side of the device and allows you to connect an optional set of headphones for personal listening. You can also connect the headphone jack to an auxiliary input on your vehicles audio system so you can listen to the GPS-500 through your car's audio system.

• Mini USB/Charger Port: This 2.0 mini-USB port is located on the right-side of the device and allows you to connect to your computer and to the included wall charger using the supplied USB cable. This port also connects your vehicle's cigarette lighter or accessory power port to the GPS-500 using the supplied car-charger.
